How to prepare for your in-home lactation consultation
Thank you for inquiring. I’m exciting to work together! Now that I have more information about what issues you’re experiencing with breastfeeding, and we’ve decided on a time to meet, it’s time to get ready for our visit.
preparing for our visit
Step 1: think about what your breastfeeding goals are, whether its improving latch, increasing milk supply, preparing for your return for work. write these down so we can go over your questions and concerns. while there are time limitations, we can work together to create a plan of care so you accomplish your goals.
Step 2: choose a spot for the consultation. think about where you feel the most comfortable when breastfeeding, and we can work in that area during our visit. THis could look like your bed, the couch, your breastfeeding chair.
Step 3:come with a hungry baby and full breasts! This will help us make the most out of our time together. since we will be doing a pre- and post-feeding weight, we want to make sure baby is hungry and your breasts are full. ideally, the last feeding or pumping session should be 2-3 hours before our visit.
Step 4: have the space ready to go (ask a family or friend to help you with this!). have your pump and pump parts clean and ready to use, have any pets put away before i arrive, and access to a sink and outlet readily available for us to use.
We’re going to have a great time together as we learn about you and your baby, and how to support your breastfeeding journey. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concern prior to our appointment.
